This year has started off with a blast for the wrestling community with no signs of slowing down. There has been debuts of new shows and young talent emerging. On Twitter, there has been an entertaining surge with a wrestler known as Salina De La Renta.
Salina’s connection with her fans shines as she shows maturity beyond her years with entertaining promos and segments that go above and beyond to entertain people on social media every day. Major League Wrestling has come under attention as a result of this very special young performer and gives us a look into what the future looks like for wrestling and social media.
For the Social Media Uncut Q&A, I had a chance to get some answers and a chance to pick the brain of the social media sensation known as Salina De La Renta.
J.C: How does it feel to have a following that has connected with you so well?
Salina: It really feels amazing that I can connect with my fans in such a way. They are the ones who give me feedback and help a lot when it comes to my next moves, Merch, even traveling plans. If it wasn’t for my fans, I wouldn’t be who I am, so I’m grateful.
J.C: Did you imagine getting over with fans in such a big way?
Salina: I had imagined that it was going to work but this certainly happened a lot faster than I imagine, seeing my social media grow in such a small amount of time makes me want to keep doing what I’m doing and challenges me in a way. It’s a lot of pressure being this loved. I know I can’t mess up now without it being a big deal.
J.C: What’s your reaction to fans on Twitter who only connect with a wrestling promotion because of you?
Salina: That is probably my favorite part, especially when they say it. It shows the company my value, and value always leads to success.
J.C: We all know with the good, there will be the negative, have you experienced some backlash from fans/trolls?
Salina: Ehh. I try to focus on the positives but of course, there are haters everywhere. It’s something I can’t control, nor I want to. I’m not scared of hate. Hate and love are both feelings and it’s my job as a performer to make you feel some type of way. A reaction, any reaction is better than no reaction and to hate me, you got to love me first. Nobody hates someone they don’t know ;).
J.C: What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when a fan on Twitter advocates for you to be part of WWE/AEW/Impact (honestly)?
Salina: I feel like people are ungrateful. MLW has put out an amazing product and seeing people begging for me to leave them is kind of a backstab. I am loyal to MLW so to be clear, I am not in this to use them a stepping stool to get to a higher promotion. I am here to grow with them. With that being said, I won’t leave them but if I get the chance of working with them along with another promotion at the same time then I’d be 100% down.
J.C: This year has been a big year for wrestling, including Women of Wrestling, do you feel like this is the best year to be a wrestling fan with variety?
Salina: I think the best years are still to come.
J.C: Final question, what’s your advice to wrestlers who use Twitter the same way you do, who are trying to get over, but seem to get lost in the shuffle, what’s your message to them?
Salina: I can’t give advice on how to get over, you need grace for that and, love what you are doing. Everything in life is a cycle, give love to your career and love comes back.
Salina has become a very recognizable face of MLW and has continued to shine as Major League Wrestling continues to grow with her. She will certainly be looking to raise the bar higher than she has already set. The future of wrestling is looking great as the social media sensation makes her presence felt and will certainly set a new standard for all wrestlers on social media.
